School of Nursing faculty, alum receive awards at KUMC Alumni Reunion Weekend

Two University of Kansas School of Nursing faculty members and a 1999 School of Nursing alum received awards during the 2013 KU Medical Center Alumni Reunion Weekend, held last weekend, Oct. 4-5.
Recognized at a luncheon Friday, Oct. 4, with other KUMC award winners were School of Nursing clinical instructor Jill Peltzer, Ph.D., RN, APRN, and School of Nursing professor Janet D. Pierce, Ph.D., APRN, CCRN. The KUMC Alumni Association selected and presented the awards at the luncheon, hosted by the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor.
Monica Scheibmeir, BSN, Ph.D., APRN, FAANP, currently dean of the School of Nursing at Washburn University, received the Distinguished Nursing Alumna award for her noteworthy contributions to KU, her field and to the health of all people through patient care, basic and clinical research, teaching skills and/or health services administration, and for serving as a role model for current and future health care professionals. Scheibmeir graduated from the KU School of Nursing with a bachelor's in 1979 and her Ph.D. in 1999.
Peltzer received the Early Career Achievement in Nursing Alumna award, presented annually to alumni who have graduated within the last 20 years from the School of Nursing. The award recognizes individuals who have made distinguished achievements and contributions early in their career to their respective professions, the KU School of Nursing or the KU Nurses Alumni Associations. She received a BSN in 1992, master's degree in 2000 and Ph.D. in 2012 from the KU School of Nursing.
Pierce accepted the Honorary Nursing Alumna award, which is given to non-graduates of KUMC who have had significant impact through their professional or personal contributions to the missions of the KU School of Nursing, the KU Nurses Alumni Association and/or the provision of health care or health care education.
The awards are the highest honors the KUMC Alumni Association bestow upon graduates of the KU Schools of Health Professions, Medicine and Nursing and those who have made outstanding contributions to the health care professions. Here's a list of all of the 2013 Alumni Award winners.
