The KU School of Nursing offers several certificate programs for post-graduate study. The certificate programs build on the nursing graduate degree (MS, DNP or PhD) to provide nurses with the opportunity to explore areas in advanced nursing practice that will expand their roles within the profession. Please refer to the specific certificate program information for next available admission terms and application deadlines.
Advanced Practice Clinical Certificates
The advanced practice clinical certificate programs require that students have completed an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) educational program from a nationally accredited school of nursing. Applicants must also have completed the following advanced practice prerequisite courses, either as part of their previous graduate degree or as post-graduate study through an accredited university: advanced health assessment, advanced pathophysiology, advanced pharmacology, and health promotion.
Healthcare Informatics Certificate
The Healthcare Informatics certificate program requires applicants to have earned a master's in nursing or DNP degree, or a graduate degree in another health-related discipline.
Health Professions Educator Certificate
The Educator certificate program can be completed either as post-graduate study, or concurrently with a student's graduate program in nursing or other health-related discipline.
Background Check Requirement
For KU programs to maintain accreditation status, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations requires that all persons, employees, volunteers and students involved in patient care activities to have background checks. This status is very important to healthcare organizations to demonstrate to patients and professionals that they meet the highest of standards for patient care.
This background check will be done at the applicant's expense after provisional acceptance has been granted. The information from this report is held in confidence by the school. More information regarding background checks for students
