Nelda Godfrey, PhD, RN, ACNS-BC, FAAN, is clinical professor and associate dean for Undergraduate Programs at the University of Kansas School of Nursing.  Dr. Godfrey leads the baccalaureate program (BSN) in nursing, the RN-BSN completion program, and is helping to design a shared curriculum with partner schools in the KU Community College Nursing Partnership (KUCCNP), a group representing 17 associate degree nursing programs in Kansas.  Dr. Godfrey and her staff are working on innovative curriculum models and share their expertise and experiences regarding concept-based learning with colleagues nationally.    

She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Missouri in Columbia, her master's in nursing (clinical nurse specialist) from the University of Kansas and her Ph.D. in nursing from the University of Missouri. She formerly served as the chair of the Department of Nursing, William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo., following an active teaching career in both nursing and liberal arts.  Dr. Godfrey has numerous articles on healthcare ethics and leadership, and has co-authored the book, "The Making of Nurse Professionals:  A Transformational, Ethical Approach" with Dr. Nancy Crigger.

She has been recently appointed to the ANA Code For Nurses Revision Advisory Committee, and is the principal investigator on a multi-site, two-state study examining how professional identity is formed in  pre-licensure nursing students, and the strategies faculty use to foster professional identity formation.
