Phoebe D. Williams, RN, PhD, FAAN, joined the KU School of Nursing in 1992 after teaching at the University of Florida for 10 years and the University of the Philippines Health Sciences Center in Manila for 19 years. Much of her time is dedicated to research. She also teaches graduate and undergraduate honors research and pediatric graduate nursing courses and dissertation advising. Dr. Williams has received multiple research grants focused on care of families and children with chronic illness; on instrument development; and on growth and development in early childhood. Published in Cancer Nursing (2012) 35 (2), funded by the Alex Lemonade Stand Fdn, she and others at five sites across the USA have calibrated the Therapy-Related Symptom Checklist for Children (TRSC-C). Research on the TRSC-C also have been conducted in Puerto Rico, Hong Kong, and Thailand. An adult version of the scale (TRSC) has been developed and used in studies in the USA, China, Hong Kong,Thailand, Puerto Rico, and Manila. Earlier, Dr. Williams also completed a large randomized controlled trail (RCT) study on interventions for siblings and parents of children with chronic illness, funded for $1.3 million by the National Institutes of Health, in Bethesda, Md.. Two Fulbright awards and other sources funded her studies on child development including the restandardization (in metropolitan Manila) of the Denver Developmental Screening Test; a study in Indonesia on the Child Development Expectations Inventory; and in Thailand, on the HOME scale.

She has published numerous books, chapters, articles, and many other educational materials dealing with oncology, pediatrics, and research. She also has extensive experience as a reviewer; she had chaired the review groups on Fulbright grants for the Council for the International Exchange of Scholars, Washington, D.C. Prior to this assignment, she successfully completed a Fulbright Regional Research Grant in Indonesia and the Philippines; and a second award, to Thailand. Dr. Williams also has reviewed for the Scientific Review Group, National Institutes of Health. Widely recognized in her field, Dr. Williams has served as a consultant for national and international organizations. In addition to these activities, she has presented at numerous research conferences. She was named as 2007 Distinguished Alumna at the University of Pittsburgh. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International and Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars, and a Life Member of Sigma Xi since 1986 and Phi Kappa Phi, since 1962.
