KU School of Nursing 2014 Recognition Ceremony Information

Three nursing students at Recognition CeremonyThe 2014 University of Kansas School of Nursing Recognition Ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall, 600 N. 7th St. in Kansas City, Kan.

The event is a great chance for family and friends to see graduates walk across the stage and receive School of Nursing recognition. Tickets are not required and there is no limit of guests per graduate.

Students who graduated in August and December 2013 and those scheduled to graduate in May and August 2014 may participate in the ceremony. Student names received in the Office of Student Affairs by April 30 and confirmed as eligible to participate in the Recognition Ceremony will be listed in the program.

There isn't a dress rehearsal for the ceremony so these instructions serve as the rehearsal. It contains important details for you as well as helpful information for your family and friends who plan to attend. pdf icon

Once your information is received and processed, you will get a seat assignment. Please check the seating chart to see that you have a designated seat. If your name is missing, call Cynthia Fulks at (913) 588-1619 immediately.

University Doctoral Hooding Ceremony in Lawrence

The 2014 University's Doctoral Hooding Ceremony will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, at the Lied Center on the Lawrence Campus, which is approximately 45 minutes west of KUMC.  Both PhD and DNP graduates from the School of Nursing who are graduates from August 2013, December 2013 or May 2014 are welcome to participate in the ceremony; however, the Office of Graduate Studies on the Lawrence Campus must be notified of your intent to participate by completing the Student Participation Form, .

University Commencement in Lawrence

The 2014 University of Kansas Commencement will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, May 18, at Memorial Stadium on the Lawrence Campus.  For additional information about University Commencement, click here.

Directions, Parking and Accommodations for the Recognition Ceremony

The event will be held at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall, 600 N. 7th Street in Kansas City, Kan.  (map) Parking lots are available in the area, including free on-street parking on weekends  Click here for a map of parking lots.

Please use the Memorial Hall Driveway just south of the building for handicapped/wheelchair access to drop off family members.  Memorial Hall has wheelchair access, but does not have a supply of wheelchairs.

Regalia

If you intend to participate in the Recognition Ceremony, please make arrangements for regalia by mid-April, at the latest. Regalia is worn at all School of Nursing related graduation events (School of Nursing Recognition Ceremony, KU Doctoral Hooding Ceremony, and University Commencement).   Regalia is available at the KU Medical Center Bookstore. Call the bookstore, (913) 588.2494, with any questions. Late orders cannot be guaranteed delivery and late fees may be assessed.

Within the School of Nursing, the following regalia are appropriate:

BSN graduates (both basic BSN and RN-BSN) Bachelor's gown and mortarboard; apricot tassel   MS graduates Master's gown and mortarboard, master's hood (gold), black tassel.

Post-Master's Certificate completers Your choice of MS cap/gown/hood or dressy street clothes

PhD graduates Doctoral gown, tam, doctoral hood (dark blue/royal), old gold tassel.  (NOTE:  doctoral graduates will carry their hoods until they are officially hooded at the doctoral hooding ceremony.)  

DNP graduates Doctoral gown, tam, doctoral hood (apricot), apricot tassel.  (NOTE:  doctoral graduates will carry their hoods until they are officially hooded at doctoral hooding ceremony.)

Faculty Appropriate gown, mortarboard/tam, gown and hood as appropriate for highest degree earned.  Contact the KU Medical Center Bookstore if you do not own your own regalia.

Photography

GradImages is the official photographer for the event. Pre-register with GradImages to access the photos as soon as they're available. (Type in University of Kansas in the search box to find the School of Nursing.) You can include up to six email addresses so your friends and family members can also access the photos. Proofs will be emailed to you, and pictures can be ordered online, by phone or by mail.  GradImages can be contacted at 800.261.2576.
